WELCOME TO THIS MAGIC MONDAY MOMENT

Kicking off your week with some thoughts around a favorite Disney quote (because in my world - Disney is life!).

Happy Monday!

I just returned from a family vacation where we drove over two days from Minnesota to Montana / Wyoming. We spent three days exploring Yellowstone National Park and one day taking in Grand Tetons National Park. We then made the trek back to Minnesota over two more days.

This trip was amazing and definitely an adventure for my family of four. During the week, I couldn’t help but think about one of the simplest yet quite aspirational quotes from Disney/Pixar’s movie “Up”:

We know that there is so much to see and do out in the world (adventures abound!).

But what if we thought of the changes and goals in our lives as adventures too?

Stepping outside of the comfort zones of our everyday lives (work, routines, etc.) can be clouded with fear, uncertainty and doubt. When we allow those feelings to keep us from exploring something new – we can become stagnant, unmotivated and dissatisfied.

Imagine reframing what makes us uncomfortable as an adventure! What feelings does that frame of mind invoke? For me – it brings about feelings of excitement, curiosity and inspiration.

When preparing for an adventure, here are the actions you might take:

  • decide on the destination

  • research and map out the best route

  • equip yourself with necessities (communication, safety and navigation tools, basic survival items, support from others)

  • highlight intended milestones.

Next – you set out and start the adventure. Along the way – you allow for the unexpected, problem solve when there is a detour and celebrate the wonderful surprises you didn’t expect.

Finally – you reach the destination. It might be just as you thought it would be or it could be a disappointment. Or it just might be way better than you ever imagined! Regardless - the growth and development you gained on the journey makes it all worth it.

What I described above is much like navigating a change in your life or working toward a goal you have set. It starts with the unknown and uncomfortable – but with the right amount of vision, planning and flexibility – you cannot go wrong.

“Adventure is out there” doesn’t only mean taking extravagant trips or embarking on activities like skydiving, ziplining or mountaineering (although these adventures are highly recommended as well!).

ANY aspect of your life can be an adventure.

You get to set the course and lead the navigation.

YOUR adventure is out there waiting for you.

Reflect on an area of your life that you’d like to create change or set a goal for but haven’t taken action. Reframe it using the mindset of adventure. How does that change your thoughts and feelings about it? What steps can you take to map it out and put it into motion?

Wishing you a wonderful week. You've got this!
