Message from Rafiki
WELCOME TO THIS MAGIC MONDAY MOMENT
Kicking off your week with some thoughts around a favorite Disney quote (because in my world - Disney is life!).

Happy Monday!
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Disney’s “The Lion King”. I’m really having a hard time wrapping my head around that! 30 years? It is in the top 5 favorites for me. Besides it being just a really good, emotional movie – it also holds a special place in my heart because of where I was when I saw it for the first time. The summer of 1994 – I was living in Florida doing the College Program at Walt Disney World. I can vividly remember going to the movie theater at, what was then called, Pleasure Island / Disney Village Marketplace (now known as Disney Springs). Seeing a new Disney release at Walt Disney World while being a Disney cast member!? The very best.
Rafiki – the baboon and, what I would say, spiritual guide, is my favorite character from the movie. He didn’t say much – but when he did…it was something very wise.
I’ve had three words of his ring through my head for years. I’ve never used it as a quote before – but recently – it’s been a mantra for me. Those three simple words are:
There is a point in the movie when everyone thinks Simba is dead – but Rafiki catches a scent of him in the wind. Once he realizes that Simba is alive – he excitedly and assuredly says those three words.
What Rafiki means is that the time has come for Simba to step into his destiny as the true king of the Pride Lands.
So, let me bring this back to how that might apply to you, to me, to us.
Like with Simba – we run into lots of obstacles in our careers, leadership journey and overall life. Some are tiny bumps and some are seemingly insurmountable mountains. Often – we think the best thing to do is hide, avoid, or mask.
And sometimes – taking a beat to process through whatever those obstacles brought up does make sense. But staying in that space most likely doesn’t.
Because there IS something that you are meant for. There IS a destination that is waiting for you. There ARE gifts that you need to share with the world. There IS joy and satisfaction available and that you deserve.
Don’t wait for the sign to blow by in the wind.
Be your own Rafiki and just decide.
It is time.
