WELCOME TO THIS MAGIC MONDAY MOMENT

Kicking off your week with some thoughts around a favorite Disney quote (because in my world - Disney is life!).

original message date: 06/03/24

Happy Monday!

This year, my football-playing 8th grader joined track for the first time.  He’s not much for running, but the thought of throwing a shot put intrigued him.  However, in middle school track, you need to pick at least one running event.  So, hurdles it was.  By the conference meet at the end of the season, he was over the hurdles (no pun intended).  The final meet was the conference meet.   He tried to convince me for days that he just couldn’t go.  What I knew was that competing in hurdles at the conference meet had him all up in his head.

This quote from the song “Let it Go” sung by Elsa in the Disney film, Frozen, fit the situation:

It was a time for him to test his limits.  And he did.  Did he win?  No.  Did he break a personal record?  No.  Did he break through the head drama and do something that he didn’t feel prepared for?

Yes.

If you’re anything like me – you might get exhausted from the not going for it.  From the “yeah, buts” and the “what ifs” and the “I’m not sures”.  The unhelpful chatter and deep-rooted limiting beliefs (limiting is the key word here) can get really loud.

When you give power to what holds you back - what is the result?   It might be:

  • Lack of confidence

  • Missed promotion

  • Staying comfortable (might sound nice, but is it really?)

  • Stuck doing something you don’t want to do

  • Watching others pass you by

  • Disengaged team

  • Wasted time scrolling, binging Netflix or diving into the pantry

Good news, friend.  You can take the power back.  You can decide that it’s time to test those limits.  You can do the work to break through.

I’m not suggesting it will always be easy.  Heck – you might not even be clear on exactly what is holding you back!  But the possibility is there.

You just need to be willing to elevate awareness, to get a little uncomfortable, to shift perspective and to take action.

Are you ready to see what you can do?

What is one area that you can test the limits of this week? How can you tweak your thoughts in a way that moves you toward breaking through?

Wishing you a wonderful week. You've got this!
