Message from Merlin

WELCOME TO THIS MAGIC MONDAY MOMENT

Kicking off your week with some thoughts around a favorite Disney quote (because in my world - Disney is life!).

original message date: 07/08/24

Happy Monday!

Last year, I proposed on a leadership development project with a pretty cool organization. It had the potential to be so fun, so exciting and so impactful. It had the makings of the work I love to do and would serve the future version of me.

And it felt big. Bigger than anything I had taken on as a solopreneur to date.

That scared me – but I went for it anyway.

I presented to the senior leaders and even took them through a portion of what the experience would be. It went well!

However, I didn’t win the business.

My brain immediately offered thoughts with the flavor of “why did you even think you had a chance?!”.  But this quote by Merlin from the 1963 animated film, “The Sword and the Stone”, kept me grounded:

If your brain is anything like mine (hello, humans!) – it’s really good at blocking and tackling.  It throws fear, doubt and uncertainly into the path of trying something new or going for opportunities.

Sometimes those voices win.

We stay stuck.  We uncomfortably continue with the comfortable.  We swim in the dissatisfaction.

✨ Here is what I know: What do or don’t do is a choice. ✨

Sure - the fears might come the fruition.  The ‘thing’ might not happen.  The result might not be what we envisioned.  We might fail.

But the flip-side might also be true.  It could be better than you ever imagined.  It could be a success.  The result could be just as you hoped.

If you don’t try, if you don’t quiet the protective yet unhelpful voice, if you don’t take the action forward - - you will never know.

If I didn’t try…

…I wouldn’t have celebrated my business’s 6 year anniversary last month (with a lifetime more ahead)

…I wouldn’t have spoken to hundreds of people about the magic of self-awareness at conferences and events

…I wouldn’t have learned more about myself, my message and my barriers based on the missteps and ‘failures’ I’ve experienced

The examples are endless.

And the possibilities are infinite.

So, friend - it’s up to you how far you’ll go.

Are you willing to try so you’ll know?

What goal or step forward are you not moving ahead with? Are you really okay with not knowing what could be – or are you ready to try?

Wishing you a wonderful week. You've got this!
