WELCOME TO THIS MAGIC MONDAY MOMENT

Kicking off your week with some thoughts around a favorite Disney quote (because in my world - Disney is life!).

original message date: 07/22/24

Happy Monday!

I love a good “glass is half full” mentality.   Maintaining a positive outlook is more enjoyable than the alternative.  Being around others who inspire through possibility is contagious.

However, pretending that the glass is never half empty, or that the ‘negative’ side doesn’t exist, or that unwelcome bumps won’t pop up can be problematic.  As realized by Joy from the recent Pixar release "Inside Out 2," it is actually delusional.

Humans are designed to experience all kinds of emotions.  Beyond the basic ones – there are hundreds – maybe even thousands - more.  And it’s true – some just feel better than others!  So why wouldn’t we want to just focus on the positive ones?

Because that’s not realistic.

Life is 50/50.  We need to know anger to know happy.  We need to know frustration to know ease.  We need to know sadness to know joy.

Whether we welcome them or not – those uncomfortable emotions will show up.  Even when we try to pretend they are not there – they’ll keep knocking and festering until they are acknowledged.

So even though spreading sunshine and positivity is undoubtedly beneficial - - putting the pressure on the positive 100% of the time is a lot of weight for that sunshine to bear.

When Joy says, "Of course I’m delusional!" she is acknowledging that her persistent enthusiasm is unrealistic – giving light to the importance of accepting, experiencing and processing the full range of emotions.  This is essential for authenticity and well-being!

And listen – nobody is exempt from this.  No matter your role, position on the org chart or where your address falls - humans have the wide range of emotions.

Allow that fact to be true.  You, and how you show up, will be better for it.

Do you have opportunity to strike a 'balance' between maintaining a positive outlook and acknowledging the reality of negative emotions and challenges in your life?

Wishing you a wonderful week. You've got this!
