Kicking off your week with some thoughts around a favorite Disney quote (because in my world - Disney is life!).

Happy Monday!
There are some skills that I believe are foundational to being an impactful leader (and human). I call them the Four C’s: curiosity, compassion, courage and connection. I also believe that applying those skills to yourself is just as, if not more, important than practicing them with those around you!
This quote from the mighty Zeus (Hercules’ father in the 1997 Disney animated feature, “Hercules”) embodies the essence of these skills:
This will likely resonate differently for everyone. For me, in this moment, I apply it like this:
I have a lot going on (listen – I know I’m not a unicorn…. you have a lot going on too). And I want to get to it all. And excel at it. I know I can get it “all” done. I know I have the dedication, stamina, systems and strength.
But I also know that can come at the expense of other things…. like good sleep, personal development, connection with those around me and a focus on health.
This is where the heart comes in.
This is where I can get curious. What is REALLY important? What am I missing out on by trying to “do it all”? What is the worst that can happen if I lower my own expectations?
This is where I can offer myself compassion. I can offer myself support, understanding and grace. I can let myself feel the feels instead of ignore or resist them. I can be in the moment instead of trying be in 10 of them at once.
When we lead ourselves from the heart – we are more likely to lead others from the heart as well.
Strength is important and even necessary. But the heart - - the heart is the game-changer.
