Message from Kermit the Frog
WELCOME TO THIS MAGIC MONDAY MOMENT
Kicking off your week with some thoughts around a favorite Disney quote (because in my world - Disney is life!).

Happy Monday!
Tomorrow (September 6, 2022) is the first day of school for my kids. My son is starting 7th grade and my daughter is starting 9th grade…which is high school. HIGH SCHOOL!!
This year just FEELS different. High school begins the transition into – what is really just around the corner – adulthood. Conversations feel different. The meaning of time feels different.
Sharing quotes like this one from Kermit the Frog just feels appropriate…for my high schooler – and for you:
I used to dislike the topic of failure. It just didn’t feel good. Often – with failure comes internal thoughts like “I’m not good enough” or “I knew I didn’t have what it takes.” And sometimes OTHER people say things about your ‘failure’ to you that only validate those internal thoughts.
Have you experienced any of that?
I’ve changed my tune on failure though. And I think you should too.
Because really – failure is simply “the omission of expected or required action.” It doesn’t have any impact on us until we have a thought about it.
Let me give you a simple example.
Let’s say I had a goal to lose 10 pounds by August 31st but I didn’t lose 10 – I lost 5.
I failed at achieving my goal.
Here’s where the pivotal moment comes in….the thought I have about that failure is a choice.
I could think “I’m such a loser” – and a guarantee that thought will generate a feeling that leads to me giving up and putting my spoon into a gallon of ice cream.
Or I could think “I got halfway there and I’m ready to figure out what to adjust”. That is going to lead to curiosity and keep me on my path.
Failure is going to happen. To everyone. Often. It’s part of the human experience.
You can either beat yourself up over it – or realize that it is necessary to learn and grow.
Which sounds more useful to you?
Here is to failing big!
What is something you are working toward right now? Decide ahead of time what you will make it mean if you fail. Put it on a sticky note where you can see it. You’ll be ready to push past if it happens!
Wishing you a wonderful week. You've got this!
