Message from Walt Disney

WELCOME TO THIS MAGIC MONDAY MOMENT

Kicking off your week with some thoughts around a favorite Disney quote (because in my world - Disney is life!).

Happy Monday!

This week, I chose a quote from Walt Disney that represents what we are recognizing on this Monday – Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

It isn’t always easy to believe in something all the way – especially when that means sharing that belief outside of yourself. We worry about things like what others will think or hurting someone’s feelings or being viewed as an outcast, arrogant or outspoken.

And often – we are up against the barrier of not believing in ourselves.

Suffocating or hiding beliefs can be unhelpful too. We may make decisions or do things that are misaligned with our own values (never feels good), feel dissatisfied with our lives and ourselves, and deny the world the best parts of who we are.

Dr. Martin Luther King believed in equality, civil rights for all people regardless of race and the importance of nonviolent protests. He believed implicitly and unquestionably. Although his beliefs were for the good of all humans (I believe!) – he had many opposers. But that didn’t deter him from believing implicitly and unquestionably. Sadly – he was assassinated in 1968, but his beliefs continue to impact civil rights movements even today.

Walt Disney believed in finding ways to bring families together through innovative entertainment. He did not put his belief aside when he encountered obstacles and was thrown off his path (which happened many times). Not only did he see much success come from his belief before he passed in 1966 – that belief carries on through thousands of cast members and millions of Walt Disney Company guests and consumers.

Oprah Winfrey believed that she had gifts to share with the world – that she could connect with people through empathy and sharing. She had a childhood of poverty and sexual abuse – and was fired from her first job as a TV news anchor for being too emotional. Yet, her unwavering belief pushed her through adversity and she continues to successfully impact the lives of millions of people.

Kurt Warner, an NFL legend, believed that he was meant to play in the NFL. Despite the many obstacles that got in his way – he didn’t give up on his dream…his belief. He went to play 12 seasons in the NFL – becoming the only undrafted player to be named NFL MVP and Super Bowl MVP (in addition to many other accolades). Side Note: my son and I saw the movie “American Underdog” this past weekend – which is based on the true story of Kurt Warner’s journey. You really should see it.

There are thousands of stories of people who believe in their thing all the way, implicitly and unquestionably – and the world is a better place because of it.

These people are not any different than you or me. It is their all-in belief that has made them who they are.

Are you all-in on what you believe in?

What is something that you strongly believe in but are not living into it because of fear or doubt? Imagine a ‘future you’ who believes implicitly an unquestionably. What might be different? How can you bring that to realization?

Wishing you a wonderful week. You've got this!
