Kicking off your week with some thoughts around a favorite Disney quote (because in my world - Disney is life!).

Happy Monday!
I can (and do) talk about self-awareness all the darn day long. There is a lot that falls underneath that self-awareness umbrella, including really understanding what makes you unique. Your strengths, your weaknesses, your communication and decision-making preferences and your values (just to name a few).
Knowing and understanding your uniqueness is one thing.
What Timothy Q. Mouse from Disney’s animated classic, “Dumbo”, suggests is another:
Embracing what makes us unique and different isn’t always easy. Sometimes we hide parts of ourselves. We might do that for several reasons, such as (these are just a few – I know there’s more!):
Fear of judgment
Actually being judged by others (through words and behaviors)
Getting caught in the comparison trap
Trying to conform to societal expectations
Believing “different is bad”
Hiding parts of ourselves comes at a cost. It actually takes energy to hide, avoid and ignore. Energy that could be used to show up as yourself, intentionally decide what to manage or change for reasons you like and get the results you are really looking for.
And really, we should ask: who decides what is ‘normal’ and what is ‘different’ anyway? What if YOU were to decide that for yourself? That just might shift your overall thoughts in a useful way!
To embrace is to accept and support something willingly or enthusiastically.
And, just as Dumbo learned, there is nothing more deserving of support and enthusiasm than you and your uniqueness.
