Message from Miss Piggy
WELCOME TO THIS MAGIC MONDAY MOMENT
Kicking off your week with some thoughts around a favorite Disney quote (because in my world - Disney is life!).
original message date: 08/15/22
Happy Monday!
First, can I just tell you how much I love the Muppets? From The Muppet Show to all of the Muppet movies to their appearances in the Disney parks…they bring a smile to my face every single time.
If you pay attention closely – the Muppets are frequently dropping bombs of wisdom amongst their corny jokes and shenanigans. I love this one from the confident and sassy Miss Piggy:
At first glance, one might think that this is arrogance. But what I hear is someone who has their own back, who knows their own value and who doesn’t place their worthiness in the hands of someone else’s thoughts.
When my coaching clients and I really start digging into to the thoughts that are keeping them stuck in their given situation – one of most common fears falls under the umbrella of what others will think of them (in full transparency…this was also my most common fear most of my life).
As if we can control what other people think.
But we’d rather not give them any more ammunition – so instead, we make assumptions about what we THINK they might think of us.
As a result - we play small. We people-please. We don’t show up authentically. We buffer. We subconsciously beat ourselves up.
Worst of all – we miss out on what COULD be.
And the world misses out on what we have to give.
The biggest kicker is this: we could be WRONG! Our assumptions about what people will think could be (and probably are) 100% incorrect.
So – since we cannot be inside other people’s brains – let’s just let them have their thoughts.
You can only own your own thoughts. What do YOU think about you? That’s what matters.
What you believe about yourself is exactly how you’ll show up in the world.
If you think anything less than “I’m awesome” – that is where your work is.
And listen – by now you know better than to care what I think.
But I think you’re awesome.
Take notice of when you are worried about what someone else thinks about you. Where is that worry coming from? Is it holding you back? What is a new thought you can choose to have your own back?
Wishing you a wonderful week. You've got this!
