WELCOME TO THIS MAGIC MONDAY MOMENT

Kicking off your week with some thoughts around a favorite Disney quote (because in my world - Disney is life!).

Happy Monday!

It’s Halloween season!

I’m so curious – do you like the scary Halloween movies?  Or are movies like “Hocus Pocus” or the Pixar short “Toy Story of Terror” more up your alley?  I’m definitely in the latter group.

I am a little bummed this year though….I no longer have trick or treaters.   My kids are teens and prefer to do their own thing on Halloween.  I miss dressing them up, walking around the neighborhoods and sorting the mounds of candy with them!

…..ah, the 50/50 of life.  The comfortable and the uncomfortable.  The joys and the bummers.  The smooth-sailing and the stressors.

In thinking about the bummer times, I appreciate this bit of advice from Mary Sanderson from the 1993 Halloween-time classic, “Hocus Pocus”:

It might not be a calming circle exactly…but what do you do to regulate yourself in a helpful way when you are experiencing the less-than-fun emotions?

Our brains usually think it’s best to just avoid those...do something else in an effort to pretend they're not there.  Not only is the avoidant behavior something we end up beating ourselves up about (you know – either after we take on buffering behaviors or end up taking our stuff out on someone or something else?!) – but the emotions still need to be acknowledged at some point!

→  I suggest you start by noticing and normalizing.  No human is exempt from the cocktail of emotions we experience.  Not even you – super leader.

→  Then, allow yourself to regulate.  When our nervous system is dysregulated – our logical brain takes a little break.  And we want (and need) that back in action!

So, go ahead and form your calming circle….that might be taking some deep breathes, doing some journaling, going on a peaceful walk or listening to calming music.

Take care of you so you can show up as you most want to!

Even the Sanderson Sisters practice that.  🧙‍♀️🎃 👻

What is your go-to practice for calming when needed? If you don’t have one – now is the time to try a few out.

Wishing you a wonderful week. You've got this!
