WELCOME TO THIS MAGIC MONDAY MOMENT

Kicking off your week with some thoughts around a favorite Disney quote (because in my world - Disney is life!).

original message date: 09/02/24

Happy Monday!

Even though I coach on mindset and the power of how our thoughts create our results – I’m constantly having to watch my own brain and make adjustments when I become more aware.   For example - I often coach myself hard before any kind of workshop presentation.

This quote by Joy from the 2015 Disney/Pixar film, Inside Out, really resonates:

How often do we find ourselves in situations where facts and opinions blur together?   It's easy to mistake one for the other, especially when emotions are involved or when we're faced with decisions that challenge our beliefs.

This quote is a great reminder to pause and reflect. How many times have you made decisions, formed opinions, or even judged situations based on something that wasn't grounded in fact?

In my example – before a presentation, I might have thoughts (opinions) creep in that sound something like: “they aren’t going to like this.” or “I just know I’m going to screw up.”

I might THINK those are facts.  But they're not.  Fact are things that are non-disputable and in which everyone would agree.  Those thoughts of mine are not based in evidence.  And I can guarantee that others might dispute them.

Why is this important?  Because it’s those thoughts that generate our feelings.  If I choose to keep “they aren’t going to like this”, I’m probably going to feel insecure.  When I’m insecure, I’m going to do things like:  be all up in my head, stumble over my words, come across as though I’m unsure of my knowledge, read the audiences’ faces and think they're bored, etc.  My result?  I’m probably not going to do a great job and give them reason to not like it.

In this example – what are the facts?  That I’m giving a presentation on X topic to X number of people.  That’s it.   I can choose any thought from there.  Something like: “I’m know what I’m doing.” or “The audience will get value from this content.” Confidence leads to strong delivery leads to evidence to support the thought.  (for more on this concept - be sure to listen to Episode 10: The Magic of Mindset!)

It all starts with awareness.

Taking the time to distinguish between facts and opinions can make a big difference in how we approach challenges, interact with others, and make decisions that align with our true values.

Here’s to clarity and confidence in all you do!

This week - before taking action, identify your thoughts and ask yourself if your thought is coming from fact or opinion and see how this awareness shifts your perspective.

Wishing you a wonderful week. You've got this!
