In the last post, we explored the importance of vision and clarity for leaders. I promised to walk through the process myself and share the results. I’m excited to do that here—diving into my core values, beliefs about good leadership, and the impact I strive to make.
Why Clarity Matters in Leadership
A leader can’t lead unless they know where they’re going. Without clarity, ambiguity takes over, eroding trust and collaboration. People need to understand where they’re headed, what’s expected, and how they contribute to the bigger picture. Clarity builds trust and alignment—not only with others but also within yourself.
Leadership starts with self-awareness. You can’t effectively guide others if you lack a clear vision for your own direction. Asking questions like “Who do I want to be as a leader?” and “What impact do I want to make?” creates a foundation for confidence, authenticity, and intentional action.
The Process of Gaining Clarity
To gain clarity, I revisited key exercises I often do with my clients, such as:
Defining Core Values: Identifying the principles that guide my decisions and behaviors.
Understanding Myself: Exploring strengths, communication preferences, blind spots, and how experiences have shaped me.
Examining Mindset: Recognizing how thoughts shape results and overcoming mindset barriers.
Visualizing My Future Self: Imagining who I want to become and aligning today’s actions with that vision.
This is like a recipe—combining values, self-awareness, and future focus to align actions and behaviors with clarity.
My Core Values
Through this process, three core values emerged:
Universal Worth: Recognizing the intrinsic value of every individual, regardless of surface appearances. This value fosters compassion and curiosity.
Self-Awareness: Knowing and understanding myself to create intentional shifts that foster growth.
Making a Difference: Striving for a positive impact on the greater good, one person at a time.
These values guide my work, decisions, and interactions. They ground me and keep me aligned with my mission.
Why I Do What I Do
At its core, my work is about helping leaders, teams, and organizations create environments where people thrive. Whether addressing skill gaps, improving team dynamics, or leading through change, I dig deep to uncover the root causes of challenges. It’s more than just training—it’s about building connection and fostering growth.
My Leadership Philosophy
Leadership isn’t about a title; it’s about behaviors. Effective leaders:
Operate with integrity and empathy.
Create environments where others feel safe, valued, and empowered.
Lead with courage and compassion, lifting others rather than oppressing them.
While leadership styles are subjective, I’ve identified non-negotiables that I believe define impactful leadership. These include opposing dictatorship-style leadership, bullying, and environments where fear or inequality thrive.
My Impact Statement
As part of my clarity process, I revisited my impact statement:
I create a safe space, full of possibility, where people can experience the ups and downs without judgment. I honor people’s uniqueness, perspectives, and stories while helping them realize and live into their whole-person potential.
This statement captures my approach to coaching, facilitating, and guiding leaders. It’s about fostering connection, creating space for growth, and empowering others to make their desired impact.
Updated Company Values
My business values have also evolved. While my personal values remain central, I’ve refined my company values to reflect my mission:
Integrity: Acting authentically, honestly, and with accountability.
Empathy: Approaching others with curiosity, compassion, and understanding.
Courage: Embracing vulnerability, making tough decisions, and standing up for what’s right.
Growth: Committing to continuous learning and evolution.
Connection: Building trust and fostering meaningful relationships.
Guideposts and Pillars
In addition to my core values, I’ve identified three guideposts or pillars that shape my approach and the experience I deliver to clients:
Honor the Story: Every person, team, and organization has a unique story. By listening and honoring these stories, we create connection, understanding, and opportunities for meaningful growth.
See the Whole Person: Everyone has many layers - well beyond ‘employee’. Approaching others with curiosity, empathy, and compassion uncovers truths, builds trust, and strengthens relationships.
Lead with Courage and Compassion: True leadership requires authenticity, truthfulness, and kindness. By leading with courage and compassion, we create spaces where people feel valued, empowered, and able to thrive.
Why Coaching Matters
Clarity is challenging to achieve on your own. That’s where coaching makes a difference. A coach provides accountability, fresh perspectives, and asks the right questions to unlock deeper insights. They help you see the label on the jar when you’re inside it.
Final Thoughts
Clarity is both grounding and freeing. It empowers authenticity, aligns actions with purpose, and creates magic in leadership and life. By understanding yourself and your vision, you’ll lead with confidence, inspire others, and make a lasting impact.
If this resonates with you, let’s start the conversation. The magic begins with clarity.
