Happy Monday!
I’ve been hearing a lot of people talk about the need for *community* these days. Maybe it’s because we are coming out of the winter season. Maybe it’s because things are feeling a bit chaotic and extra-divisive in this moment. Maybe it’s simply because connection is fundamental human need.
Whatever the source…I’m feeling it too. This quote by Lilo from Disney’s animated feature, Lilo and Stitch, is resonating with me right now:
I wanted to experiment with how this might apply to the space I work in….leadership and organizations.
Of course, in workplace settings, we don’t often use the word family to describe our teams - but maybe we should. Not in the sense of holiday dinners and sibling rivalries, but in the sense of belonging, loyalty, and shared responsibility.
In a strong team, just like in a strong family, everyone matters. Everyone contributes. And no one gets left behind.
That means:
✨ We check in on the quiet voices.
✨ We extend grace when someone struggles.
✨ We lift instead of push down.
✨ We communicate with respect.
✨ We remember that we are all humans who have value and are worthy of kindness.
Whether you’re leading a large group or a small team, think about how you can show up like ohana this week—intentionally creating a culture where every person knows they are seen, valued, and supported.
Because leadership isn’t just about outcomes. It’s about people.
