Message from Jim Henson

WELCOME TO THIS MAGIC MONDAY MOMENT

Kicking off your week with some thoughts around a favorite Disney quote (because in my world - Disney is life!).

Happy Monday!

What is your take on the notion of “luck”?  Is there such a thing?  Recently – I had someone tell me that I was "so lucky".  And although I understand the intent of the sentiment, it made me pause. Am I ‘lucky’ – or have I simply created the results I have?

And then I came across this quote from the late, great Jim Henson – the masterful puppeteer, animator, actor, filmmaker and creator of my cherished Muppets:

The definition of ‘luck’ is: success or failure apparently brought by chance rather than through one's own actions.

I’m not a disbeliever of luck by any means. Things surely can happen by chance…sometimes.

But I think if we give "luck" too much credit – we are overlooking the influence we have in shaping our own realities.

When things go well in our lives, calling it "luck" diminishes the energy, effort, and intention we’ve invested in our goals. And when things don’t go as planned, relying on "bad luck" can disempower us from taking responsibility and learning from our setbacks.

By labeling outcomes as "luck" (good or bad), we lose sight of our ability to create, adapt, and respond. Because It's through intention and those actions, that our results take hold.

I believe that, as Jim Henson describes, we form our lives by showing up, doing the work, and being ready for opportunities when they arise. Yes, chance can play a part, but our ongoing efforts, mindset, and belief in ourselves are the real drivers behind our outcomes!

Think about your own current results. Are you giving your own intentions and actions for the outcomes?

Wishing you a wonderful week. You've got this!
