Message from Thanos
WELCOME TO THIS MAGIC MONDAY MOMENT
Kicking off your week with some thoughts around a favorite Disney quote (because in my world - Disney is life!).
original message date: 11/14/22
Happy Monday!
I tend to tread lightly around descriptive words like difficult or easy. When we use these words – we state them as if they are fact, but they are actually very subjective. Every person will have a different threshold of what words like difficult, easy, challenging or fun means to them.
Hence – the tread-lightly zone for me.
Having said all of that – I do appreciate this quote from the not-so-nice-but-he-has-a-story-too supervillain, Thanos, from the Marvel movie: Avengers: Infinity War.
Again – what is hard for me might not be hard for you. Perspective is important. And recognizing that hard falls on a spectrum is too.
For example – choosing a place to eat can be hard for me…AND deciding whether or not to leave my corporate job to start a business was also a hard choice. The potential impact on my final choice for each of those hard decisions, however, are on totally different ends of my spectrum. Risking $10 on a meal vs. leaving a secure, decent-paying and comfortable position to dive deep into the unknown – complete opposite ends.
What Thanos is suggesting is that regardless of the choice and the level of your hard– it is determination that is required to get to the other side of that choice.
Being strong-willed isn’t something that you simply have or don’t have. Every single person has the ability to create determination and a willingness to take action – even when there are bumps, fears and setbacks.
And it always starts with a thought.
If you think things like “It’s too hard” or “I just don’t know” or “I don’t have it in me” – you likely won’t feel determined, but rather something like resigned, unmotivated or confused.
Those feelings don’t spark actions to support a strong will.
So, try on some thoughts that may be more useful:
“I’ve got this, no matter what.”
“I am someone who can do hard things.”
“It doesn’t have to be hard.”
You’ll see that you too can make even the hardest of choices – whatever that means to you.
Take notice of what thoughts you tend to think when faced with a choice you deem as hard. Do those thoughts work in your favor or can you adopt a more useful thought?
Wishing you a wonderful week. You've got this!
