Message from Rafiki

WELCOME TO THIS MAGIC MONDAY MOMENT

Kicking off your week with some thoughts around a favorite Disney quote (because in my world - Disney is life!).

original message date: 02/13/23

Happy Monday!

Change is a funny thing.  Most of us are clear that change happens constantly.  Yet, many people respond to it – or versions of it – with the utmost resistance!

How do you feel about change?

Here is the opinion of Rafiki from the 1994 animated film “The Lion King”:

What comes up for you when you read Rafiki’s words – “change is good”?

Does it make you nervous and sweaty?  Or do you get a tinge of the excited butterflies?

Or maybe you’d like to expand that sentence to something like “change is good only when….” or “change is good on my terms….”.

As mentioned, change is constant.   Some change is initiated by you.  Lots of change is not. Whether it’s the change in seasons, change in fashion, change in leadership, change in jobs, change in mindset, change in relationships (and on and on and on)…the experience of it is completely subjective and personal.

There is definitely an emotional and psychological process that we go through with change (which, when understood, honored and paid attention to – change can be better ‘managed’).

Note: For more on that – listen to episodes 29 and 30 of The Practically Perfect Leader podcast.

What also deserves immediate attention is this:

✨ your mindset around change makes a difference. ✨

“Change is good” is a thought.  So is “change is not good.”  Notice how each makes you feel.  And notice how each will take your response to change down different paths.

Here is the take-away:  Your thought about change is optional.  Your choice will impact your experience and your results.

Even though some change situations take me a bit longer to get there – personally, I’m on board with Rafiki’s thought.  I much prefer the possibilities that have presented themselves when I adopt that thought!

How about you?

The next time you are presented with a change (no matter how ‘big’ or ‘small’), notice your thoughts and feelings. Do you like the results that your thought creates?

Wishing you a wonderful week. You've got this!
